Asia Argento is an Italian actress and filmmaker who is a member of a large family of both. She has pursued these two careers for her own. Sogni e bisogni, directed by Sergio Citti and starring Asia Argento when she was nine was her first film. The role she played was the main one in Cristina Comencini's Zoo (1988) and also appeared as part of Michele Soavi's 1989 feature film The Church. In 1989, she portrayed Nanni Moretti's daughter for the film Red Wood Pigeon. (Also directed by Moretti). Close Friends (1992) by Michele Placido (both writer and director) is where Asia really began to become a household name. It let her progress from the roles of young girls into more complex adult characters. The film was a hit during the Cannes International Film Festival. The film, Trauma (1993) the actress worked for the first time alongside her father, the renowned Italian film director Dario Argento (her mother is one of his favorite actors, Daria Nicolodi, playing an obese girl on the lookout of her parents' murderer. The Phantom of the Opera is her third movie with her Father, the first two films being Trauma and The Stendhal Syndrome. Asia's focused and intense style of acting was also utilized by Giuseppe Piccioni in Condannato a Nozze. Patrice Chereau was her director in Queen Margot in which she was a major character. In 1995, Asia collaborated with Michel Piccoli to produce Peter Del Monte's Traveling Companion, for which she received a prize from David di Donatello. In 1994 Asia began the art of directing, and produced two short films: Prospettive in 1996, she produced a documentary about her father and, in 1998, a film about cult director Abel Ferrara, Abel/Asia (1998) and was awarded an award at the Rome Film Festival. Asia started directing her first feature film in 1999. It was Scarlet Diva (2000). It was also her main actress, and the author of the script. In May of 2000, the film was released both in Italy and across the world. The film was given a special prize at the Williamsburg Film festival in Brooklyn. Anna Lou was born in 2001, after having directed some music videos. In 2002, she starred as Jean-Marc Barr's co-star in The Red Siren (Olivier Megaton) and Vin Diesel was the star of Rob Cohen's thriller action The Action. Asia is the writer of several short stories, that were published in various magazines.
